All are invited to join us for a fun-filled day in Gettysburg.
Our day in Gettysburg — Saturday, May 7, 2011
Our field trip is open to all family members. We look forward to a full day of Masonic fellowship. Beginning with a tour of the Gettysburg National Battlefield museum, we will see one of the largest collections ofCivil War relicts in the world; the newly restored “Battle of Gettysburg” Cyclorama, a 360 degree circular oil on canvas painting that depicts Pickett’s Charge; and a 20 minute film overview of the battle, narrated by Morgan Freeman, entitled “A new Birth of Freedom”. Following our tour of the museum we will board the bus to one of Gettysburg’s restaurants adjacent to the battlefield. We hope to confirm our plans for lunch shortly and will send an update as soon as possible.
Once we have recharged our batteries, we will again board the bus for ride out onto the battlefield, where over the next two hours PM Sheldon Munn will guide us through some of the pivotal moments of the three day battle. Our tour will end with a wreath-laying ceremony at the Friend to Friend Masonic memorial after which we will return to Herndon.
Our Masonic guide for the day
Once arriving at the Gettysburg National Battlefield Park, at approximately 9:00 AM, we will meet PM Sheldon Munn. Brother Munn is with Lafayette Lodge No. 194 F&AM in Selinsgrove, PA; was a Gettysburg National battlefield Park guide; authored “Freemasons at Gettysburg”; and was the driving force behind the creation of the Friend to Friend Masonic memorial in the Gettysburg National Battlefield Park Cemetery. The Grand Lodge of Pennsylvania dedicated the memorial in 1993 honoring Brother Bingham, a Union officer assisting Brother Armistead, a Confederate General on July 3, 1863.
