April 2011

During the month of March, the Brethren of Herndon Lodge were treated to a program by Bro. Tom Morrison regarding Major General Winfield Scott Hancock and a Masonic education program explaining how to examine a visiting brother to the Lodge by RW Michael Pobat. We also celebrated DeMolay week with a wonderful presentation of the Ceremony of Light by State Master Councilor PJay Shuey.Herndon Lodge conferred degrees to pass one Brother and raise another. Welcome to our newest Master Mason, Brother Lance Cottrell. It was terrific that your father was able to be present to help raise you.

Most Worshipful John M Chambliss was formally received by District 4 at Mt Carmel’s stated meeting. At the meeting, the Most Worshipful presented Wor. Varun with both the Hillman and Levy Awards for 2010. Congratulations to Wor. Varun and the brothers of Herndon Lodge for these two fine accomplishments.

A dose of Masonic ritual education was administered as Herndon Lodge hosted the CA Sinclair School of Instruction. The Friday session opened with Frank DeBenedictis providing an excellent version of the Ceremony of Light for the District. On Saturday, Bethel 52 presented a program about Job’s Daughters edited by Honored Queen Emily Brooks to the brothers. The Herndon brothers exemplified the Fellowcraft Degree for the school. Herndon’s own Wor. Rhey Solomon was recognized for his dedication to the craft by being recognized as this year’s recipient of the Chalmers Robert Custer award for dedication to the school, ritual excellence, and proficiency. Congratulations Rhey!

Upcoming in April, Herndon Lodge will be balloting on two candidates and welcoming back Wor. Bill Rennagel as he will enlighten us with a presentation that he has prepared. For the second stated, you’ll need to pay attention to the weather report to catch a hint of the program to be presented by Wor. Dick Walk. At the DeMolay first stated on April 7, Wor. AJ Hughes will be discussing The Old Guard, who along with other duties, stand watch at the Tomb of the Unknowns. This presentation will be open to all Master Masons. It would be great to have a strong contingent on hand to support AJ and the chapter. Also starting in April, Herndon Lodge will host a family movie night. This will be a great opportunity to spend time together with your family and brothers.

Best wishes to Bro. Valker, Schultze, and Palmer for their upcoming nuptials and to Bro Ruark who is expecting his first child soon.

Other notes…The Lodge is in need of some upkeep and repairs. The best help would be with your time and hands. But, if that is not an option, please consider making a donation to the Lodge Building Fund so that we may care for our beautiful lodge building.

Keep an eye on this web site for upcoming events and ways that you can be active with your lodge. Come to a meeting or practice to learn a part. You just might become the one that leaves a lasting impression upon a new brother.
