January 2011

Brethren

Thank you for electing me to serve as Worshipful Master for the upcoming year. I, the Lodge Officers, and Committee Chairs are looking forward to making this a fun and productive year for Herndon Lodge. Herndon Lodge also has the distinct honor of one of our own being selected to serve as District Deputy Grand Master for the 4th Masonic District for 2011. We will be receiving Right Worshipful Michael Pobat at our first stated meeting of the year and look forward to his support throughout the year.

It may sound odd, but we’ll be spending a good deal of time this year away from the Lodge. Herndon will be a “Traveling” Lodge this year. There will be many fraternal visits – supporting our DDGM, visits to support Bethel 52 IOJD and Herndon DeMolay, and to help celebrate the 50th anniversary of Mt. Vernon Lodge. A Herndon apron is available to those that would like to have one to wear to these other lodges (a donation to the Needy Family Fund is included in the reasonable price of this apron). Other trips this year will provide family oriented activities. Items already on the agenda are a guided tour of the Gettysburg Battlefield in May, a trip to the Grand Lodge of Pennsylvania in June, and the Lodge picnic in September.

It is my hope that each Lodge brother will attend at least one event this upcoming year as a way to recommit themselves to the Lodge. If you know a brother that hasn’t been around much lately, call him up and invite them to a Lodge activity. Offer to give him a ride to a fraternal visit or to one of the other events this year. Go the extra step to reach out to see if a brother may be in need of assistance or need of a friend.

Administrative notes… 2011 dues notices have been mailed. Please do return your annual dues and the accompanying card to update your contact information as quickly as possible. This year we will use email to send out reminders and notices whenever possible. Our Webmaster – Bro. TC Conway – has setup a new member area on the Lodge website (http://HerndonLodge264.org) where you can update your contact information as well as other data. The website also offers a good way to keep current on Lodge events.

Sincerely and Fraternally,
Philip Brooks, WM
